Oak Harbor Freight Lines is a family owned LTL operation with about 550 tractors based out of 33 terminals in the West, from the Canadian to the Mexican border. The fleet is implementing Zonar in selected terminals for the pre- and post-trip inspections required by FMCSA. "Manual paper and pencil inspection systems are just antiquated," says Jack Morris, director of maintenance for the company. "We are using Zonar's Electronic Vehicle Inspection Report system (EVIR) to help assure compliance with the regulations and to expedite the whole maintenance process. Now instead of tracking pieces of paper from point to point, we capture and share inspection information electronically.

"We were also looking for standardization in inspections," Morris adds. "With Zonar, drivers are doing inspections the same way every time and, as a result, they are doing a better job. Inspections with Zonar can now be verified, and we can see at a glance who is doing them right and who is not. We feel like we are missing less and making fewer mistakes with Zonar, so that helps our overall fleet safety, too."
