"Rinker Materials Northwest has a fleet of over 50 vehicles and is using Zonar's Electronic Vehicle Inspection Report system (EVIR) across the entire fleet. We are saving 32 hours of labor per week since implementing Zonar's system," says Dave McAuley, regional manager asphalt division. "We used to spend all that time on paperwork before, trying to keep track of paper inspection reports, reconciling inspection reports with maintenance records and so on. It really was a full-time job. In fact, we had a person retire whom we did not have to replace."

"Their system also helps us tremendously with improving our efficiency," he notes. "We do our own maintenance and we have two maintenance crews, a day crew and a night crew. The night team does most of our regular scheduled maintenance, while the day crew gets most of the unplanned work. Thanks to Zonar, we can see what defects we have while the truck is still out there in the field because the inspection report is available via the Internet as soon as the truck operator drops the Zonar handheld back in the cradle. This enables us to go get parts, for example, and have them ready when the truck comes back at the end of a work shift.

"The Zonar system also helps assure that the actual inspections are being done as required. We can see the time drivers spend at each inspection point," he explains. "Executive reports generated by the system also make it easier for us to identify trends and spot problems or opportunities.

"What initially impressed me the most about Zonar and still does," McAuley reflects, "was that they were truly focused on the safety of the truck driver. The people at Zonar really understand truck drivers — how they work and what they need. Plus, we knew the company would be there for the long-haul."
